Four days for the second time. In June for the first time. And with new rules that will catch a lot of sellers off guard.
Amazon Prime Day 2026, expected June 23-26, is no longer just a regular sales event. It’s the single most important moment in the Amazon calendar, and it’s not something you start preparing for two weeks out. After nine years of Prime Day experience and countless accounts managed through these events, I’ll say it plainly: the difference between sellers who make Prime Day their most profitable event of the year and those who look at their numbers afterward in frustration isn’t decided during the event. It’s decided in the four to six weeks before it.
Here’s what you need to know.
The Three Biggest Changes in 2026
1. Four Days, and What That Actually Means
In previous years, Prime Day was a 48-hour sprint. Since 2025 it spans four days, potentially double the volume, double the traffic, double the competition. That sounds like an opportunity, and it is, but it’s also a trap: sellers who don’t scale their budgets accordingly will simply run out of steam in the second half of the event. Budgets need to last four days, not two.
2. New Discount Rules, No More Artificial List Prices
Amazon has tightened its price history requirements significantly. A deal price must now reach or beat the lowest price of the last 60 days, and be at least 5 percent below the 30-day average price. Sellers who raise their prices shortly before the event to manufacture a better-looking strikethrough price will simply lose their deal eligibility. The foundation for a visible reference price is also a stable price for at least four weeks. If you haven’t done this yet: freeze it now.
3. Deal Fees in Germany, Far Cheaper Than Most Think
There’s a lot of US-based misinformation floating around in the European market on this. The actual fee structure on amazon.de is: a 16 euro upfront fee per promotion, plus 1.5 percent of promotional sales (capped at 5,000 euros). A Lightning Deal on a 95 euro coffee machine selling 80 units costs roughly 130 euros in total fees, not a losing proposition if the math works out.
One more thing to factor in: since April 2026, Amazon has introduced a 3.5 percent fuel and logistics surcharge on FBA fulfillment fees, averaging around 0.17 euros per unit. Small number, but it needs to be built into every margin calculation before Prime Day.
The Decision That Determines Everything Else
Before you submit a single deal or increase a single budget, you need to make one fundamental call: optimize for profit, or push for market share?
These are not compatible goals. Profit-focused sellers run conservative bids, protect margins, and ride the organic uplift. Market share-focused sellers accept temporarily higher ACoS, push rankings, and invest in customer acquisition. Both are valid strategies, but sellers who try to do both at once achieve neither.
This one decision shapes your bid strategy, your budget planning, your deal calculations, and your post-event behavior.
What Actually Needs to Be Prepared, and What Doesn’t
Inventory Is Non-Negotiable
The FBA inventory deadline is May 27, 2026 for AWD and minimal-split shipments, and June 5, 2026 for Amazon-optimized splits. Inventory that arrives after these dates won’t be eligible. No exceptions, no goodwill.
Calculate your needs conservatively: historical sell-through rate multiplied by a realistic Prime Day boost factor of 3 to 7x for strong performers. A stockout during Prime Day is the worst possible outcome, deal fees paid, revenue lost, BSR collapsed.
Don’t Wait Until Event Day to Scale PPC
Amazon’s advertising algorithm scales campaigns based on historical conversion data. A seller who moves their best keywords into exact match campaigns on June 23rd will pay higher CPCs for worse placements than someone who did it four weeks earlier. Quality Score is not a myth, it directly determines what you pay for the same position. What’s changed in campaign structure and targeting options for 2026 more broadly, I’ve summarized here.
The practical implication: intensify auto campaigns now, identify your top converters, move them into dedicated single-keyword exact match campaigns, and let those campaigns build history before Prime Day begins.
The Bulk File Saves, or Wrecks, Your Post-Event Performance
Sellers who don’t save a bulk file before Prime Day cannot cleanly roll back all changes after the event. A CPC that was 4 euros during Prime Day costs just as much after the event at half the search volume, if you don’t reset. The bulk file is your safety net. Export it, save it, done.
Three Mistakes I See Every Year
Automation runs through the event. Scale Insight, Perpetua, Pacvue, all of them need to be disabled 1 to 2 days before Prime Day and not reactivated until 5 to 7 days after. Prime Day data is statistically unrepresentative. Any rule that learns from it will be permanently miscalibrated afterward, the same caution applies to any rule-based bid automation you have running outside of these tools.
CVR drops and everyone raises their bids. In the 7 to 10 days before Prime Day, conversion rates drop noticeably, customers add products to their carts and wait for deals. This is predictable behavior, not an algorithm issue. Sellers who raise bids during this period are spending money on traffic that would have converted anyway.
GPSR compliance overlooked. The EU General Product Safety Regulation has been mandatory for all physical products on amazon.de since December 2024. Missing compliance can lead to deal disqualification or listing suspension, right before the most important event of the year.
The Most Important Reality Check
Total revenue in the Prime Day month is typically not higher than in other months. Prime Day uplift and the sales dip before and after the event largely cancel each other out. What remains are lasting assets: new keywords, new customers, better reviews, stronger rankings, if you execute correctly.
Prime Day isn’t a magic event. It’s an investment. Sellers who go in well-prepared come out with real advantages.
Getting the bid strategy, inventory timing, and budget pacing right before an event like this is exactly the kind of work I do in every Amazon Growth engagement I run for sellers and vendors heading into Prime Day.
